Mercury Fede re-elected as Civil Liberties hold the executive

The incumbent topped the score round on 237 and took the automatic runoff 41–33 against Emilia. Eighty-three valid votes were counted, and the result is provisional after further ballots were struck for fraud.

Mercury Fede (/u/flemish_coconut) of the Civil Liberties Party has been re-elected President of SimDemocracy, winning the automatic runoff of the 173rd presidential election by 41 votes to 33 against 💗 Emilia 💗 (/u/ClubWonderful4114) of the Revolutionary Organization for Social Equality.

shiitake (/u/Some_Cellist3056), also of the Revolutionary Organization for Social Equality, was returned as Vice President on the winning ticket.

The contest drew 83 valid votes, a figure the Electoral Commissioner described as “a lot” when announcing the result shortly before midnight. It was released provisionally: a number of votes had again been struck for fraud, and the Commissioner said the remaining details would “be hashed out during the week”.

The score round

Eight candidates stood. Voters scored each of them, with the two highest scorers advancing to an automatic runoff.

The gap between first and second was 43 points; the gap between second and third was 86. Whatever else the score round settled, it settled the shape of the runoff early.

The runoff

The runoff was closer. Mercury Fede took 41 to Emilia’s 33 — a margin of eight, on 74 ballots expressing a preference between the two finalists out of the 83 counted as valid.

Two of the eight candidates in the score round came from the Revolutionary Organization for Social Equality, which finished second and fourth. The party also supplies the re-elected Vice President.
