Nominations are open for the 173rd Senatorial Election. Candidates have 24 hours to declare, ending later in the day than has lately been usual.

The Call had been deliberately held back. With Article 1 of the Get alts out of the Senate Amendment still in referendum, the Electoral Commissioner declined to post it until the result was known — a pass would have replaced Threshold Equal Approval with a closed party-list D’Hondt system and forced the nomination template to be rewritten from scratch.

The amendment was rejected on 29.82% Aye. The template stands, and so does TEA.

A note on tagging

Prospective candidates are asked to fill in their own Reddit username rather than copy the example verbatim. The placeholder in the template turns out to belong to a real, thirteen-year-old account whose owner — last active some ten months ago — has now been pinged enough times to ask, politely, that it stop.
